I think this link is better: http://colinbutleratbodhi.tumblr.com/
I am in Kolkata, with good internet access for the first time since arrival in India 11 days ago. But I leave this hotel in an hour, this is a brief interim report. My companion (Aryadharma) and I have travelled by the Delhi metro, with Susanta Chakma in his car through apparently impenetrable traffic in Vikas Marg, on an overnight train from Old Delhi station to Mainpuri, on a country bus back to Delhi and with new and old friends in Sankissa and Pune (which we flew to on a Jet airplane on a domestic flight from the international terminal).
At Sankissa we survived 3 nights in the Cambodian vihara, where it was surprisingly cold, with no hot water - hard for we soft Westerners. We have been sick but not too sick.
Suresh and his team at the Youth Buddhist Society, along with hundreds of volunteers (including his younger brother Kailash, the main translator from Tibetan to Hindi for the Dalai Lama), successfully organised two days of teachings at Sankissa, given by His Holiness to at least 3,000 people, mostly "low caste" Hindus.
On the second day of his teachings (Sunday February 1) I met, for just a minute, with His Holiness, and told him Susan had died. To my great joy, he remembered her, from almost 25 years ago, and said he would pray for her.
In Pune, we spent three days with Karunadeepa and her family, projects and assistants. I have great confidence Karunadeepa and her team will do an excellent job in Susan's name, including with the creche, the balwadis (pre-school), the study classes, and the sewing and computer classes, especially for the infants and children living in two Pune slums.
We took dozens of pictures, I have started to post some on Tumblir.
